Background

Ayumi Nagatomi joined the VCDNP as a Japan Chair Intern in August 2026. Prior to joining the VCDNP, she worked as a summer undergraduate fellow at the Center for Nonproliferation Studies in Monterey, California, where she supported research on nuclear energy policy in East Asia. She also served as a research intern for the Japan Chair programme at the Center for Strategic and International Studies in Washington, DC. Additionally, during her undergraduate studies at Harvard, she worked as a research assistant in the Department of East Asian Studies and as an events assistant at the Korea Institute.

Education

Ms. Nagatomi graduated magna cum laude from Harvard College in May 2026 with a joint concentration in Government and East Asian Studies. She received a language citation in Korean and a public policy certificate. Her thesis on extended deterrence and alliance politics received high honors. She is a native Japanese speaker and is fluent in English.
