VCDNP Senior Fellow Angela Kane moderated a panel discussion at the International Institute for Peace (IIP) on 4 April 2019 regarding ongoing conflicts in the post-Soviet space. Ms. Kane, who is also Vice President of IIP, shared the panel with Alexander Dubowy of the Institute for Security Policy, Alexander Iskandaryan of the Caucasus Institute Yerevan and Sergey Markedonov of the Moscow State Institute for International Relations.
During the discussion, each of the panellists noted the profound complexity, by which the post-Soviet space is characterised. Among the unresolved territorial conflicts referenced during the panel were Transnistria, Abkhazia, South Ossetia and Nagorno-Karabakh. As one panellist observed, the dissolution of the Soviet Union has had consequences that remain even today.
