VCDNP Senior Fellow Angela Kane gave an interview to International Politics and Society magazine on the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons (TPNW), nuclear disarmament at large and the role Germany has to play.

During her interview, entitled "Was bedeutet Abschreckung wirklich?" (What Does Deterrence Really Mean?), Ms. Kane spoke with Eriedrich Ebert Foundation's Volker Lehmann about a range of issues in modern deterrence policy, non-proliferation and disarmament. In particular, Ms. Kane expressed the view that nuclear disarmament initiatives, especially the TPNW, are more important than ever in a time when multilateral agreements are being unilaterally dissolved and the rift of distrust continues to grow between nuclear-weapon States and non-nuclear-weapon States.

Ms. Kane also expressed the view that, although Germany is not a signatory of the TPNW, the majority of its citizens support it and hopes that Germany will play a vocal role in disarmament initiatives in the future, including in the upcoming Review Conference of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons, which also marks the NPT's 50th anniversary.
