Though the 75th year of the United Nations has turned to the 76th, the work of promoting the UN's history is an ongoing task. VCDNP Senior Fellow Angela Kane, also the former UN High Representative for Disarmament Affairs, spoke to participants of Model United Nations Regensburg on 8 January 2020 as part of the organisation's annual simulation conference.
Ms. Kane, invited as the conference's keynote speaker, provided a comprehensive overview of the UN's history, as well as its current role in preventing and mitigating the effects of international conflicts. Following her formal remarks, Ms. Kane answered audience questions, extending the formal session up to two hours.
Following the conference, the organisers expressed their gratitude for Ms. Kane's remarks and dialogue during the question-and-answer session. "Ms. Kane took on their questions in a lovely way, interweaving the current situation, her point of view and her experiences," organiser Jannik Steinwender said. "Ms. Kane successfully captured the attention of the audience and provided rare insight into the different issues."
The conference was conducted by the United Nations Society Regensburg and the Chair of International Politics and Transatlantic Relations at the University of Regensburg.
