On 11 October, VCDNP Senior Fellow Angela Kane participated in a panel discussion at the UN City Bonn, Germany titled "Chances and Challenges of German membership in the UN Security Council."

Ms. Kane was joined on the panel by Dr. Guenter Pleuger (former German ambassador to the UN), Dr. Martin Frick (UNFCCC) and Christos Stylianides (EU Commissioner for Humanitarian Aid and Crisis Management). The panel was moderated by Barbara Parente of Deutsche Welle.

Germany currently holds a non-permanent seat in the Security Council until the end of 2020, and the panel provided an opportunity for experts to discuss the opportunities and challenges facing the federal republic as it attempts to promote its agenda.

The panel discussed German core concerns such as promoting peace, sustainable development and mitigating the effects of climate change, in addition to tackling questions about Germany’s role on the Security Council and the challenges faced by states in the multi-polar system.
