VCDNP Senior Fellow Angela Kane was interviewed along with Bourse & Bazaar founder Esfandyar Batmanghelidj by BBC Newshour on the reimposition of United States sanctions against Iran related to the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA). The interview addressed the potential implications of the US sanctions on the Iranian economy, as well as the potential impact on European and Chinese companies that wish to do business in Iran.
During the interview, Ms. Kane remarked on what European countries might do in order to continue operating in Iran despite US sanctions.
What you basically have, is you have a very strong collision between the US and Europe at this point. First of all, Europe is now looking at an opposing world view. It's a law and order, it's a rule-based organization, it believes in alliance-based agreements, it believes in deliberation and negotiation. And also now it seems that the US is really working to defeat US policy because it is an international agreement, the JCPOA, it was working to contain the nuclear ambitions of Iran, but on the other hand, the US is now the only one that is pulling out of it.
