During the Annual Conference of the International Bar Association (IBA) from 4 to 9 October 2015, the VCDNP’s Angela Kane sat down for an interview with IBA Multimedia Journalist Ruth Green during which she discussed her distinguished career at the United Nations, multilateral diplomacy and current issues in disarmament, including the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).
“I’m always in favor of a position where you get people to the table, you basically talk to them. And you can’t really say “I don’t agree with a position of that country so I’m not going to talk to them,” because talking only to the like-minded is just not a good approach, because that’s why you have the United Nations. So you hear different views. And I find it always surprising because when you talk to people who work in bilateral affairs, they have a very different take on things and I come from a viewpoint where I hear all kinds of positions and I hear positions that I may or may not agree with. But that doesn’t mean that I discard them. It just means that I have to pay attention to them and be sensitive to positions that are national, that are very strongly held.”
Ms. Kane's full interview is also available on the IBA website.
