VCDNP Senior Fellow Angela Kane spent a month as faculty in residence at Schwarzman College, Tsinghua University. During her residency, Ms. Kane lectured in the global affairs program's module on "Leadership in Practice -- Leading in International Organizations (UN)."
As lead faculty of the module, Ms. Kane guided students through the realities of working at a multilateral institution, in particular the United Nations. She and supporting faculty shared their expertise in the complexities of management in an international organization, including how to deal with mandates, Member States, competing demands and a hierarchy that does not always welcome new ideas.
The module included sessions dedicated to nuclear and chemical arms control and non-proliferation on the global stage. There were also discussions of China's place in the global security architecture, including its future as an international leader in these issues.
