The third meeting of the Preparatory Committee (PrepCom) for the 2020 Review Conference of the Parties to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT) runs from 29 April to 10 May 2019 and VCDNP Senior Fellow Angela Kane is making her mark.

Preceding the PrepCom, Ms. Kane published a paper on the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons (TPNW) with the Friedrich Ebert Siftung's New York Office (FESNY). The paper, entitled "Between aspiration and reality: Treaty on the prohibition of nuclear weapons, peace and security", analyses some of the underlying reasons as to why the divide between nuclear-weapon States and non-nuclear-weapon States has become so toxic and makes recommendations about what could be done to improve the quality of the discourse.

During the PrepCom, Ms. Kane discussed the TPNW, as well as the conclusions contained in the paper, at a side event which also featured Volker Lehmann, (FESNY), Ambassador Alexander Kmentt (Austria), Jon Wolfsthal,(Global Zero) and Ambassador María del Socorro Flores Liera (Mexico).

Following the publication of the paper, FESNY also published the below interview with Ms. Kane.
