On 19 March 2018, VCDNP's Ulrich Kühn participated in a panel focusing on "Europe's Transforming Security Landscape and NATO," organized by the Austrian Institute for International Affairs (OiiP) in cooperation with the Austrian Ministry of Defense. In his remarks on "NATO, Nuclear Weapons, and Arms Control – Challenges, Prospects, Implications," Kühn concentrated on the renaissance of deterrence between NATO and Russia, the decline of arms control as well as inadvertent and accidental escalation risks. According to Kühn "the almost complete absence of arms control measures [...] makes the New Cold War perhaps more dangerous than its predecessor." Further panelists included Alice Billon-Galland of the European Leadership Network, Finish Ambassador Hannu Kyröläinen, and OiiP's Hakan Akbulut.
