Background

Pablo Jose Perez Cañavate joined the VCDNP as a Research Intern in April 2026. Prior to joining VCDNP, he worked as a research fellow at the African Center for Science and International Security (AFRICSIS) where he contributed to the Non-Proliferation and Disarmament Programme and the Nuclear Security Programme. He also supported the Center’s work on strategic planning and stakeholder engagement. Additionally, he worked as a research assistant on two projects supported by Horizon Europe dedicated to studying the impact of migration diplomacy on States’ behaviour. Mr. Perez Cañavate has also served as the events coordinator for the Security Distillery think tank.

Education

Mr. Perez Cañavate graduated with distinction in December 2025 from the International Master’s programme (IntM.) in Security, Intelligence and Strategic Studies (IMSISS), studying at the University of Glasgow, the University of Trento and Charles University in Prague. In 2023, he was awarded the Fundación “la Caixa” scholarship supporting full-time study. He received his Bachelor of Arts in History and Politics with a minor in Sociology from Universidad Carlos III de Madrid in 2023, where he graduated with distinction.
Mr. Perez Cañavate is a native Spanish speaker and is fluent in English, French, Italian and Portuguese.
