Background

Ms. Ariga joined the VCDNP as Japan Chair Fellow in January 2025. In this role, her research focuses on the multilateral debate surrounding the norm against the use and the threat of use of nuclear weapons. Previously, she completed internships with NATO and the UN Office for Disarmament Affairs, where she contributed to key policy reports and strategic initiatives related to disarmament and non-proliferation. She has also conducted academic research on Japan’s engagement with multilateral nuclear disarmament initiatives.

Education

Ms. Ariga holds a dual graduate degree in International Studies and Public Policy from Seoul National University and the University of Tokyo, where she graduated with honours. She completed her undergraduate studies at University College Maastricht, specialising in Liberal Arts and Sciences. Ms. Ariga is a native French and Japanese speaker and is fluent in English.
