International Security, Nuclear Weapons and the War in Ukraine: VCDNP and IAI joint event at the University of Roma Tre

On 10 October 2022, the Vienna Center for Disarmament and Non-Proliferation (VCDNP) and the International Affairs Institute (IAI) organized a joint event at the University of Roma Tre titled: International Security, Nuclear Weapons and the War in Ukraine. The event is part of the Young Women and Next Generation Initiative (YWNGI), an effort of the EU Non-Proliferation and Disarmament Consortium (EUNPDC) to engage the next generation in non-proliferation, disarmament and arms control.

On 10 October 2022, the Vienna Center for Disarmament and Non-Proliferation (VCDNP) and the International Affairs Institute (IAI) organized a joint event at the University of Roma Tre titled: International Security, Nuclear Weapons and the War in Ukraine. The first panel of the event was dedicated to the current geopolitical situation in Europe, where experts analyzed the impact of the war in Ukraine on the non-proliferation and disarmament regime, assessed the threat and scenarios of potential use of nuclear and chemical weapons.

The speakers included:

  • Leopoldo Nuti, Full Professor at the University of Roma Tre
  • Ettore Greco, Executive Vice President of the International Affairs Institute (IAI)
  • Dr. Hanna Notte, Senior Research Associate at the Vienna Center for Disarmament and Non-Proliferation

The second panel, dedicated to the work of the EUNPDC and to opportunities for the next generation in the arms control, non-proliferation and disarmament field, featured:

  • Manuel Herrera, Researcher at the International Affairs Institute (IAI)
  • Federica Dall’Arche, Senior Research Associate at the Vienna Center for Disarmament and Non-Proliferation

Both panel discussions were opened and moderated by Associate Professor of History of International Relations at the Department of Political Sciences at the University of Roma Tre, Marilena Gala.
