The Vienna Center for Disarmament and Non-Proliferation (VCDNP) cordially invites you to attend a panel discussion entitled “Nuclear Security and the Nuclear Supply Chain in the Age of Artificial Intelligence,” to be held on Thursday, 17 April 2025 from 15:00 to 16:00 Central European Summer Time (CEST). The event will be held in the VCDNP Conference Room and live streamed to Zoom. Light refreshments will be provided at 14:45.
Artificial intelligence (AI) systems have the potential to both improve and pose risks to nuclear supply chain in previously unforeseen ways. AI systems will help in identifying counterfeit items and analysing the supply chain in more detail than was previously possible. However, increasingly capable AI models may provide malicious actors with powerful new tools to identify and target nuclear supply chain vulnerabilities, and integration of AI systems into nuclear facilities may create novel vulnerabilities. New strategies and considerations are needed to ensure that AI systems are used beneficially to their full potential and that the nuclear supply chain remains secure against these new challenges.
This event will highlight the key results from a newly published VCDNP expert report on this topic, as well as reflect on discussions from an expert workshop hosted by the VCDNP in January 2025.
Dr. Sarah Case Lackner, VCDNP Senior Fellow, and Mara Zarka, VCDNP Research Associate, the authors of the newly published report, will engage in a conversation about its key results, the workshop, nuclear security, the supply chain, and artificial intelligence. A Q&A discussion with the audience will follow.
Elena Sokova, VCDNP Executive Director, will open the event and moderate the Q&A.
Please register to attend in person or online using the forms linked below.
The VCDNP would like to thank Global Affairs Canada for its support of this event as well as the January workshop.
