Understanding the Balance of Confidence and Feasibility in Irreversible Nuclear Disarmament

The Vienna Center for Disarmament and Non-Proliferation (VCDNP) cordially invites you to a hybrid seminar to launch its forthcoming report on “Understanding the Balance of Confidence and Feasibility in Irreversible Nuclear Disarmament” to be held on Wednesday, 21 May 2025 from 14:00 to 15:15 Central European Summar Time (CEST). The seminar will be held in the VCDNP conference room and streamed live to Zoom. Light refreshments will be provided from 13:30.

During the seminar, VCDNP experts will present the results of a project focused on irreversibility in nuclear disarmament. The project explores political, legal, and normative considerations that could affect confidence that certain steps on the path to nuclear disarmament are not reversed and the feasibility of implementing verification and transparency measures to inspire that confidence. The project aims to aid in future negotiations on the principle of irreversibility through informed analysis of past practice and perspectives gathered from States Parties of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT).

Speakers:

Noah Mayhew, Senior Research Associate, VCDNP

Dr. Nikolai Sokov, Senior Fellow, VCDNP

The seminar will be moderated by VCDNP’s Japan Chair for a World Without Nuclear Weapons Gaukhar Mukhatzhanova.
