VCDNP's Senior Research Associate Ulrich Kühn warned in an interview for Deutsche Welle Russia that a military clash between US and Russian forces over Syria could happen in the near future, though the sides have avoided open conflict this time. Kühn expressed his concern that all external powers involved in Syria are driven by strong domestic interests of appearing uncompromising and tough.
