VCDNP Welcomes New Advisory Board Members

The Vienna Center for Disarmament and Non-Proliferation (VCDNP) is pleased to announce two new additions to its Advisory Board: Ms. Angela Kane, High Representative for Disarmament Affairs at the United Nations Office for Disarmament Affairs, and Ambassador Wael Nasser Eddin Al-Assad, Head of Mission of the League of Arab States to Austria and to the International Organizations in Vienna.

The VCDNP Advisory Board is made up of a diverse group of prominent individuals who lend perspectives to the activities of the Center and play an important role in providing expert counsel to the Board’s chair and the VCDNP executive director on the work and specific programs of the Center.

Dr. William C. Potter, VCDNP Advisory Board Chair, and Elena K. Sokova, VCDNP Executive Director, are exceptionally delighted to welcome Ms. Kane and Ambassador Al-Assad and look forward to working with them to ensure that the Center continues to be a well recognized and valued independent platform for result-oriented dialogue among national governments, international organizations, and civil society on nuclear disarmament and non-proliferation, and a center of excellence for first-rate research, outreach, education, and training on these issues.

Ms. Angela Kane brings outstanding expertise in disarmament and exceptionally broad experience with over forty years in varied roles at the United Nations. Her distinguished career and passion for ridding the world of weapons of mass destruction—particularly nuclear weapons—increasing the role of women in disarmament matters, and advancing disarmament education and training will be invaluable to the VCDNP in fulfilling its mission and promoting international peace and security.

Ambassador Wael Nasser Eddin Al-Assad is a distinguished diplomat and expert who devoted over forty years to arms control and disarmament issues in the Middle East, including most recently as the Arab League’s Representative of the Secretary-General for Disarmament and Regional Security and the Director of Disarmament and Multilateral Relations. The Center looks forward to strengthening its programs and activities that focus on the Middle East with the guidance from Ambassador Al-Assad.
