The Vienna Center for Disarmament and Non-Proliferation (VCDNP) is delighted to welcome its new Senior Fellow Angela Kane.

VCDNP Executive Director Laura Rockwood and CNS Director William Potter are tremendously pleased to welcome Ms. Angela Kane to the VCDNP where she will serve as Senior Fellow. Dr. Potter praised her extraordinary commitment to nuclear disarmament and non-proliferation and her vast experience in multilateral affairs. "We could not find a more talented individual with whom to work," he said.

Ms. Kane comes to the VCDNP from her position as United Nations High Representative for Disarmament Affairs, where she was responsible for developing and directing the UN's multilateral disarmament and non-proliferation agendas. In that capacity, she played a pivotal role in the UN's investigation into allegations of chemical weapons use in Syria in 2013.

She had a long and distinguished career in the United Nations system, having served at a senior level in almost every department of the UN since joining the UN in 1977. Prior to taking up her role in Disarmament Affairs, she served as Under-Secretary-General for Management, where she was responsible for the global financial and budgetary management of the UN. She also served as UN Assistant Secretary-General for Political Affairs, focusing on the prevention and resolution of conflicts, and as Assistant Secretary-General for General Assembly and Conference Management. Her assignments in the field were as Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary-General for the United Nations Mission in Ethiopia and Eritrea (UNMEE), and postings in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Indonesia and Thailand.

Ms. Kane has recently taken up residence in Vienna. We are happy to welcome her to her new home, and proud that she has chosen to work with us at the VCDNP, where we hope to capitalize on her extensive experience and knowledge in all matters related to non-proliferation and disarmament.
