Background

Louis Reitmann leads the VCDNP's work on outer space affairs and space security. He produces research and convenes dialogue that support States in preserving stability and reducing the risk of conflict in space, including through the UN Open-Ended Working Group on the Prevention of an Arms Race in Outer Space in Geneva and the UN General Assembly First Committee in New York.

He has also contributed to projects on export controls, sanctions violations, and the norm against the use of nuclear weapons. His work has been published in Arms Control Today, The Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists, by the UN Institute for Disarmament Research, the European Leadership Network, and in WorldECR, the leading journal on export controls and sanctions.

Before joining the VCDNP in 2022, Mr. Reitmann served as an Export Control Support Officer at Imperial College London, helping to protect research from misuse for weapons of mass destruction purposes. Prior to this, he supported the EU Special Envoy for Disarmament and Non-Proliferation as a Blue Book Trainee at the European External Action Service (EEAS) in Brussels. Between 2019 and 2021, he worked as an economic and financial crime analyst in the City of London. He has also completed internships with the US Mission to International Organizations in Vienna, The Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists, and the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS).

Education

Mr. Reitmann holds an MSc International Relations from the London School of Economics (LSE) and a BA Political Science from the University of Vienna. He is a native German speaker.
