Since the June summit between US President Donald Trump and North Korea's Kim Jong Un, nuclear diplomacy with North Korea has been the subject of much debate. Al Jazeera interviewed VCDNP Executive Director Laura Rockwood on the subject, touching on dialogue between North and South Korea, barriers to agreement on 'denuclearization' and the importance of external verification for such agreement.

"I think there are some conversations that need to go on between the two Koreas about their expectations of the Peninsula going forward. So, critically, the bilateral relationship between the two Koreas is very important. I think this idea of a peace agreement on the Peninsula is long overdue and it wouldn't be that difficult to achieve, but one would expect that, given that this is something that the North Koreans are very interested in, that the US would want a quid-pro-quo for it."

Robert Kelly, political science professor at Pusan National University, and Se-Woong Koo, managing editor of Korea Expose, joined Ms. Rockwood for her interview. The full interview is available on the Al Jazeera website.
