The Vienna Center for Disarmament and Non-Proliferation (VCDNP) cordially invites you to attend a panel discussion, entitled “Artificial Intelligence in Nuclear Forensics and Radiological Crime Scene Management” to be held on Tuesday, 01 September 2026 from 15:30 to 17:00 Central European Summer Time (CEST). The event will be held in the VCDNP Conference Room.
AI has the potential to support nuclear forensics and radiological crime scene management (RCSM). In nuclear forensics, professionals are already beginning to use AI to sharpen data analysis, a development that could be especially valuable for countries still building technical capacity in the field. AI may also assist with aspects of crime scene management. In both cases, however, because the results can feed into attribution and potential prosecution, the same pressing question applies: how should AI-aided conclusions be validated, and can they withstand scrutiny in legal proceedings?
Join expert panelists as they unpack the opportunities and challenges AI brings to these fields, how it's being implemented today, the legal issues it raises—including admissibility of evidence in court—and the barriers to implementing AI in the field, along with potential solutions.
