Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2020 Review Conference to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT) has been postponed. As NPT States Parties anticipate a new date for the Review Conference in 2021, international experts are projecting what the implications of the postponement might be.

As part of the joint Working Group on Alternative Approaches to Nuclear Disarmament between the VCDNP and the James Martin Center for Nonproliferation Studies, NPT expert Tariq Rauf has authored a paper exploring some of these implications.

VCDNP Senior Fellow Angela Kane, as well as Deputy High Representative and Director of the UN Office for Disarmament Affairs Thomas Markram, provided commentary on Mr. Rauf's paper and discussion of some of his proposals.
