VCDNP Participation in the 2019 EU Non-Proliferation and Disarmament Conference

VCDNP experts joined over 200 others in the Eighth Annual EU Non-Proliferation and Disarmament Conference.

The Eighth Annual EU Non-Proliferation and Disarmament Conference, which took place on 13-14 December 2019, hosted more than 200 renowned experts on arms control, non-proliferation and disarmament, including VCDNP experts.

VCDNP Executive Director Elena Sokova chaired a panel that focused on non-proliferation and disarmament in Northeast Asia. Joining Ms. Sokova on the panel were Professor Akira Igata (Tama University), Andrei Lankov (Kookmin University), Duyeon Kim (International Crisis Group) and Melissa Hanham (Open Nuclear Network).

Gaukhar Mukhatzhanova, Director of the International Organizations in Non-Proliferation programme, participated as a speaker during a plenary session focused on the 2020 Review Conference of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons. Joining Ms. Mukhatzhanova on the panel were Jenny Nielsen (CTBTO), Marjolijn van Deelen (Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands) and Meena Singelee (IAEA). The session was chaired by Benjamin Hautecouverture (Fondation pour la recherche stratégique).

The conference also included a Next Generation Workshop, in which VCDNP Research Associate Artem Lazarev and Office and Events Manager Mara Zarka participated.
